I am thrilled to announce that my first botanical contribution to this wonderful collection was accepted this year & will be part of the exhibition & will also appear in the publication. So I am a very happy artist indeed! My piece Keterleeria fortunei is a conifer native to Hong Kong & certain provinces of China. It has the most gorgeous pastel green immature cones and wonderfully large woody mature cones (this was my favourite part to paint and what attracted me to choose to this plant). I also found the seeds very beautiful to paint as well. A detail of it appears proudly in the article above and the full painting is below. Well it's not everyday you get the chance to be interviewed on the radio..... today amazingly was my day! I had the absolute pleasure of sitting in a very comfy & cosy radio studio at Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills with a beaut mic to speak into and a wonderful & friendly presenter asking me questions about my artwork & career. This was my first ever radio experience.....and despite being initially quite nervous, I had an absolute ball - it was a great experience, lots of fun and a real privilege! I was very lucky to be approached by the lovely and talented radio presenter Penelope Herbert who hosts her Fashion & Home show every Friday from 9.00 at the Hills Radio Station 88.9FM. What an absolute pleasure it was to be interviewed by Penelope. She also has her own website about Fashion & the Home called "Don't call me Penny". If you'd like to have listen, I've attached the interview below. Also...
Just recently the wonderful Stirling Markets which I attend most months featured on the great TV Show SA Life. It's a lovely little piece highlighting the Market and some of the surrounding attractions in beautiful Stirling. Click on the link below if you'd like to have a squiz and click on part 3. http://www.salife7.com.au/watch/2015/12 Last weekend I had the long overdue pleasure and delight of visiting this most beautiful Botanic Garden. I've heard about this place for some time, but had never visited until now..... and I'm so glad I finally did!! The Arboretum is situated on 30 hectares, in between Tailem Bend and Wellington here in South Australia. It is conservation based and houses a huge range of Australias threatened flora. The site was established and is maintained by a group of Volunteers and is managed by the Coorong District Council. It also has support from Community Groups, Businesses and Individuals. I was just in awe of the smorgasbord of beautiful plants to admire - Banksias, Hakeas, Grevilleas, Eucalypts, Erimophilas and so many more. There were New Holland Honey Eaters in abundance and I believe there are many more birds that can be spotted. It is amazing how much beauty can be grown in what was once a weed infested and eroded sand drift. What a wonderful job these clever people have done and continue to do with this incredible native garden..... I take my hat off to them. I came across so much inspiration for my botanical work and have popped a few snaps below of just some of the beauties I discovered. I can't wait until my next visit!!! For the Pangarinda Facebook page click here. For more info click here. In just over a week the wonderful annual Botanica Exhibition held in the Sydney Botanic Gardens will be opening their doors once again at the Lion Gate Lodge. Exhibiting a spectacular range of botanical works with the exciting theme of "Birds and the Bees" superbly crafted by many of Australias leading Botanical Artists. I am once again fortunate to have an original piece selected to hang for sale. A large selection of my Limited Edition Prints will also be available for purchase. The little original piece I managed to complete just in time, is of a Blue Banded Bee on a French Lavender - painted in watercolour and finished in graphite. If you love Botanical Art & you happen to be in Sydney, this is a must see exhibition. Please see the invitation below and click here for more details. Hi and welcome to my new website! Having to keep up with todays ever changing technology, I've had to update and create a new website. I do hope it will be just as enjoyable to look through and a little bit easier too. I've now got a drop down menu bar which is great, a new blog format and contact form also. Unfortunately the blog entries from my previous site will no longer be available for viewing.... but I'm looking forward posting lots of new and interesting ones! Some news.... As some folk may have noticed, I've been absent from my usual markets for some time.....(I've been unable to attend due to personal reasons), but I'm happy to announce that I'll be returning very soon.... next weekend at the Stirling Market. Well, I look forward to my next post and hope you enjoy looking around my new website! I thought I'd begin my blog with a snap I took of one of my most favourite little creatures.... a Blue Banded Bee taking a rest on my lavender. |
