Botanic Endeavour

18/5/2020

I just received my copy of "Botanic Endeavour"...... a stunning new limited edition book just recently released by the Florilegium Society for which I am a member of.  I am so happy & proud seeing my painting inside of Hakea Gibbosa, which also appears on the back cover.  I feel very honoured to have my piece included in this publication & having it in the company of the other incredibly talented artists gorgeous works.

The book was to accompany an exhibition (April this year), of all these beautiful artworks, held in the, Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, to coincide with the 250th anniversary of Captain Cooks voyage in the HMB Endeavour...... but due to Covid 19, the exhibition sadly has had to be postponed & will be held on a new date to be announced

Click here for more info about the Florilegium Society,  this wonderful publication & how to order.

I'm thrilled to write an entry about this truly beautiful and special exhibition held in the
unique setting of the gorgeous historic house at Carrick Hill.

display among these beautiful works.

Please see below, a few snaps I took of the exhibition.
The house and the gardens are also stunning to wander through and make a lovely day out!
The exhibition is open until November 25th, 2018.

The Florilegium at Kew

26/4/2018

Today I'm writing about 3 exhibitions currently showing at the wonderful Shirley Sherwood Gallery in Kew Gardens.  I'm really happy to say that a painting of mine is in the Florilegium Exhibition and I was very lucky to attend the special artists preview night early in April, which was wonderful and a real thrill!  It really was such privilage to see the many works by such talented artists, presented so beautifully and in such an exquisite exhibition space!

"The Florilegium: Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney"
Displays the works of 64 Australian and International Botanical Artists who are members of the Florilegium Society at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney.  The collection was previously exhibited at the Sydney Living Museum in 2016 and my Keteleeria fortunei painting is one of more than 80 paintings on display.  Information about the Florilegium Society can be found on The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney website here.

"Down Under II: Works from the Shirley Sherwood Collection"
In celebration of 10 years of the Shirley Sherwood Gallery, showcasing a number of works from Dr Shirley Sherwoods amazing personal collection by artists from Australia and New Zealand.

"Plans and Plants: The making of the Temperate House"
To celebrate the re-opening of the Temperate House at Kew - the original drawing plans are on display and also examples of what plants were inside the Temperate House in 1863.

All exhibitions open from 31st March to 16th September, 2018

My Western Australian Travels...

14/11/2017

I'm  so very lucky to have just recently returned from an amazing 4 week camping trip in Western Australia (my first time in this beautiful state)..... and being Spring, the flora was in it's prime!   After travelling across the great Nullabor we visited many of the incredible southern national parks ..... Cape Le Grand, Fitzgerald River, The Stirling Ranges, Torndirrup and Walpole before ending up in beautiful Perth.  Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth was just stunning!  On the way back we went through the wheatbelt where I found the striking Eucalyptus Macrocarpa.  I was just beside myself witnessing so many species of Banksias, Hakeas, Eucalypts and Orchids amongst such a variety of wildflowers, in their natural habitats.  The diversity of plant life was just astounding!  I can't wait to visit again one day!  I've returned home with so many photos and inspiration for future works which is wonderful!
Here's just a sample of the beautiful flora and fauna I came across....
more also on my Instagram page.

Another visit to Pangarinda Botanic Garden

24/10/2016

After much longing to return to this wonderful garden, I am thrilled to say I managed to fit in a small visit yesterday!
Oh, how I love this place.....I would love it to be a little closer, so I could visit a lot more often.
Many of the Banksias were putting on such a beautiful display...... there was an abundance of flower buds and so many honey eaters enjoying the smorgasbord of nectar from all of the flowering shrubs and trees.
Here's some of my snaps & useful links below.

20/10/2016

Sadly I have been unable to visit the exquisite Florilegium: Sydney's Painted Garden Exhibition
(as described in my last post).... however, I have been very fortunate to have family visit Sydney very recently
and they so kindly took some great snaps and recorded some wonderful footage so I could see my painting
and what the exhibition looked like.  I am so thrilled & grateful for this and have quickly put the
footage together in the short video below.
